While there plenty of differences between SEO and content marketing, there are also many areas where they overlap. Taking advantage of this overlap and using it in your website is the quickest way to get more people to visit your site. Catering your search engine optimization strategy efforts only to the Google algorithm will probably lower your search results. At the same time, focusing only on the users will ignore some of Google’s page rank algorithm which will keep your page from ranking as well as it could. Good quality takes time to create. It takes time to implement. And it takes time for Google to acknowledge that quality. Off-page SEO factors are as important as on-page SEO factors. To have a successful SEO optimisation, both should be done. Earlier it was still easy to rank by building spammy links but, after the penguin and panda updates, its much difficult. Keyword research is a critical component of SEO. What search terms do people use when searching for products or services similar to yours? How do those terms match up with your site hierarchy?
Is the traffic converting into leads?
SEO takes time, resources, and money if you outsource. You need to go into this journey expecting to spend time working on SEO for the long-term. Timely topics are seasonal (like holiday recipes) or more focused on current events or news coverage. Timely topics have a much shorter lifespan, but can drive large bursts of traffic if done well. More and more we are seeing the use of keyword clustering from sites that are making it beyond the scope of mediocre search results and traffic margins. A general rule of thumb: If you have links in a menu at the top of the page, avoid duplicating those same links on the bottom of every page. Linking to the same page in the footer creates a hole for the link juice to seep out. When you are brought on to handle the SEO for a particular website, one of the first things you need to find out is which SEO activities have previously been attempted
Finding Long Tail Keywords
If you are not a regular monitor of your blogs, it’s better to make all your comments a no follow, or else you might breach Google’s terms of service. The sitemap tells search engines about all the pages on your site, even those that might not be easy to find. A sitemap is very helpful if your site is dynamic or if it has pages with images or rich AJAX that can be hard for bots to discover. It is also helpful for new sites with few links, or sites that have numerous pages not well linked. Sitemaps help search engines do a good job of reading your website and finding your site’s content. How do you write a clickable title that will draw people to your site and keep them on there without sounding salesy or cheesy? Most SEO consultants are looking to build backlinks. Ranking high in Google can bring you some
serious traffic too. When looking at a Google
results page (often referred to as Search
Engine Results Page, or SERP for short), the
number one result alone brings in 31% of
search traffic on average. Meaning, when
people search for a keyword, 31% of those
searches will click the first result. If you perform an SEO audit now and then, you make sure your website’s up-to-date. It should be part of your frequent site maintenance cycle, I think.
How are you supposed to do it?
According to Gaz Hall, a UK SEO Consultant : "A site can never have enough content. There is always an opportunity to create new pieces of content, and the newness – or ‘freshness’ – of content is also one of Google’s ranking signals." Measure and monitor what is working and update your strategy on the fly. Good formatting can instantly improve your page’s readability. This, in turn, can improve your engagement rate. Link building is often referred to as an integral part of any search engine optimisation campaign. A link to your website is simply your website address listed on some other website, where if you click on the website address listed, you will be forwarded onto your website. Don't deceive your users or present different content to search engines than you display to users, a practice commonly referred to as cloaking.
Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)
Over the years, SEOs have become really good at understanding keyword intent and segmenting the marketing strategy to match intent. A holistic approach to organic growth often requires buy-in from internal stakeholders that may have little previous experience, or even worse – suspicion of SEO. By providing clear, deep, easy to find content on your website, Google is more likely to index and show your content in search results. Websites that are thin on content, showing mostly ads or affiliate links, or that otherwise redirect visitors away to other sites quickly tend not to rank well. SEO-friendly content writing is not just about pandering to your audience with content that is splattered with keywords. For some businesses a point in the right direction is all that is needed, for others that have had an audit carried out they may just need keeping on-track. Dependant on your requirements this can range from analysis of your site and advice given over the telephone to a visit to your premises and coaching given directly to your in-house team.
Who Would Link to You?
Repeatedly building over-optimized, spammy backlinks overtime will lead to a penalty. Link building is all about getting a link from another site back to your own. In order to do this you need to research what is out there. What you are looking for is websites that are relevant to you and your location. This is called “local link building”. You can also look for those that are just relevant to your company. Relevance is a measure of how appropriate a given page is for a given query. In the early days of SEO, this ultimately boiled down to what keywords were used in a query, compared to what keywords were found on an indexed page. Monitor the keywords, the site’s stats, the levels of engagement on each topic and find what users really expect from your page. If your website is trying to rank quickly for a specific topic, and yet there is not a piece of high-value content that addresses that topic, the probability of showing up in the Google search results is small.
